The following is a quote from www.cars-stuff.co.uk/high-performance-driving-schools-tips-and-techniques
“The British class-one Police Driver has long been acknowledged as possessing the most advanced level of driving skills in the world. The holder of a Police class one advanced certificate represents an extremely high level of road skills and driving. After all how many drivers can practice high speed pursuits on public roads on a daily basis? To drive or ride to this level is an incredible achievement, no other background will be able to reproduce this skill set, and the skills of a Police class one driver have to be experienced to be truly believed. High speeds in total safety with complete awareness and anticipation of others. These are the skills us mere mortals aspire to! The only way to acquire any of these skills is from class one police driver. Make it a priority to find a school or course that uses class one police drivers (or Police Instructor) and you can’t really go wrong.”
As sole owner and Director of VitaL Drive Ltd. I have been fortunate to have qualified as a Class one Police driver in the early years of my Police Service with Grampian Police. In the early 80’s I further qualified as a Police Driving Instructor and in my 30 years Police service during three terms of duty in the Traffic Department I have had experience and challenges in completing 163 four week Police Standard Driving courses. I retired from the Police in 2001, but after some three years out of the Police Service, I returned as a member of Support Staff in the Grampian Police Driver Training unit when I was once again privileged to upgrade my skills, train and on this occasion examine Police Officers for their standard driving courses. I have also successfully completed security escort and emergency response driver training. During the last five years I successfully trained as an off-road 4 wheel drive vehicle Instructor and attained a category D Licence, authorising me to drive the larger passenger carrying vehicles.
In 2007, after considerable adjusting from the Police Training methods and recognising the different methods required, I successfully attained the qualification as an Authorised Driving Instructor (Registered Number 344126) and this enabled me to be employed with Grampian Police training junior staff of a large oil company to improve their driving skills on a five day course. On successful completion each participant is awarded a Scottish Qualifications Authority (Customised Award). I am also a qualified trainer and examiner with the Institute of Advanced motorists.
The foregoing skills and experience have now enabled me to establish VitaL Drive Ltd which will hopefully be used as a tool to have a vast experience, knowledge and patience, used and passed on to both new and experienced drivers alike. It is not a matter of learning to pass a test! It is a skill for life to be developed and used thoughtfully with careful awareness in order to make you become a qualified, knowledgeable and safety conscious driver.
As well as the above I am a Gaelic speaker and will do lessons in Gaelic if preferred.
Sincerely
Bill MacLelland
